Dripping taps are among the most commonly occurring plumbing issues. They are also the most commonly written-off repairs. A certain number of homeowners ignore them, thinking not much of it. Gareth, over at Affinity Business came to the following drawn conclusions:

• A tap that is dripping at an average of once per second can cause 4 litres of water wastage a day. This amounts to £5 over the year.
• A tap that is leaking a constant stream with a diameter of 1.5mm, leads to 320 litres of water wastage a day. In a year that’s around £420 lost!
• A tap that is spurting a leak at 3mm diameter means 985 litres a day is wasted. That is around £4,600 per year!

As you can see, the bill adds up pretty quick. And this is just from one tap. If your house has more than one dripping tap, then you’re in for a nasty surprise when the bill comes through the post.

You can put off a tap that drips once per second, but it is advised you call in a plumber and get it sorted. The last thing you want is for that drip to turn into a 3mm diameter leak or worse. If the situation is bad, get in an emergency plumber.
